Garden Assistant

 

What is a Garden Assistant?

Garden assistant will help improve and maintain the garden. The main focus being to assist in growing fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as maintaining the garden environment as a positive welcoming space.

What’s Involved?

  • Assist with preparation, production and harvest of fruit and veg
  • Assist with planting and staking of trees, shrubs and pruning
  • Cleaning and maintaining tools, equipment and materials
  • General tidy up – pick up litter
  • Re-cycling and composting of garden waste
  • Work within health and safety requirements at all times
  • Assisting with other tasks with grounds staff, as agreed with the Gardener
  • Maintaining the plant collection by digging, forking, hoeing, weeding, mulching and watering
This role would suit people who…like working out of doors and have an interest in plants, specialist knowledge is not required. Children’s Activities Assistant

 

What is a children’s activity assistant?

Children’s activity assistant will help families, school groups and educational groups enjoy the gardens through a range of planned activities. It’s about inspiring the next generation and encouraging children and families to enjoy the garden environment and nature.

  • Leading activities with supervised small groups of children and families
  • General assistance to school teachers group leaders during activity sessions
  • Assist in running a number of environmental activities for children, using the garden environment for children to learn about wildlife, horticulture and outdoor activities
  • Leading arts and crafts activities with an environmental theme.

Events Assistant

 

What is an Events Assistant?

Events Assistant will help to deliver a variety of different events at the garden from planning and preparation to setting up and running activities on the day. It is about offering something fun and memorable for visitors and encouraging them to return, and tell their friends about

What’s involved?

  • Helping to prepare for the event – this may involve preparing craft activities, making and putting up posters, moving tables and chairs, putting up gazebos and generally helping out
  • Clearing up after the event – this may include taking down and returning equipment to its “home”, tidying up, cleaning up, etc.
  • Being a friendly face for all visitors attending the event, answering any questions and encouraging them to get involved
  • Getting visitors to give feedback on the event by filling in comment cards or questionnaires
  • Leading creative workshops such as children’s craft activities when needed
  • Reading and becoming familiar with the gardens health and safety
  • Other activities where we could use your help

Trustee committee member

 

What is a Trustee?

Being a Trustee is about much more than simply attending meetings, although that is one of the tasks. You should see it as an active not a passive role, it’s about being aware of what the Trustees are authorised to do and working with others to reach an agreement.

Fundraising Assistant

 

What is a Fundraising Assistant?

A self-motivated individual with a keen interest in seeing the garden thrive.

What’s involved?

  • To assist in proof reading funding applications and providing feedback.
  • Count cash donations given, bagging it and paying it into the bank.
  • Design, write and send thank you emails/notices/letters for each donation received.
  • Assist other volunteers and staff with fundraising activities such as open days, bake sales etc.
  • Inspiring new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters.
